Tuition Fee Loan Postgraduate Tuition fee and extra help student

3. How much can I get?

The amount of loan you can get each year depends on the length and cost of your course

The only way to know exactly how much you'll get is to apply but if you’re starting your studies in the 2026 to 2027 academic year, you could get up to £10,000 for your course.

Returning students who started their course in the 2025 to 2026 academic year, or earlier, can get up to £6,500 for their course.

You need to apply each year

If your course is longer than one year and you apply for funding in year 1, you must reapply again for each following year of study.

You can get funding for a postgraduate course for a minimum of one academic year, and a maximum of three academic years.

If your course costs more than the amount of loan you can get, you'll need to pay the difference to your university

Example for a two-year course starting in the 2026 to 2027 academic year

Year 1 - Dan's course costs £5,000 this year. He asks for the maximum and his university gets paid £5,000.
Year 2 - Dan's course costs £5,500. He asks for the maximum available and his university gets £5,000. He has to pay the remaining £500.
